SP-A
Heat press ready mounting solution
The SP-A is a specialized archival, lightweight support panel for use in a heat press. We use metal instead of poplar because it is more thermally conductive. Like the standard SP panels, these are handmade to customer specifications. Each panel has an aluminum skin on the front and back of a welded internal aluminum frame with a lightweight aluminum honeycomb core. These panels are incredibly versatile and thus are frequently re-purposed. Our archival support panels are stable and will retain their size and will not warp, even with humidity and temperature fluctuations.
- .032” aluminum skin on face and .020” aluminum skin on back
- 1/2″ aluminum honeycomb core
- 1/2″ x 1″ welded aluminum frame
- Panels over 47” in both dimensions will have a minimal seam in the aluminum skins
- We offer additional internal aluminum cross-members for mounting objects or cleats.
- We use a neutral-cure two-part epoxy in fabrication
Some of the most common uses include:
- Textile mounting
- Object mounting and support
- Supporting works on paper
- Lining paintings
- Mounting photos
- Mounting mosaics
- Paintings and drawings
- Storing large flat works such as maps and flags
If both dimensions exceed 47”, panels will have a minimal seam in the aluminum skins. The seam is sanded flat and will not affect the use of the panel.
The aluminum skin is not intended as a finished display surface, but we can add a 20-point conservation rag board to the face* or powdercoat the aluminum face.
*Panels over 88” in both dimensions will have a seam in the paper.*

Is your panel over 47” in each dimension?
If so, please make sure you have reviewed the finishes information regarding a seamed aluminum face.
Do you need the panel to have a paper face?
We offer an acid-free, lignin-free 20-point conservation rag board that can be adhered to the face. Panels over 88” in both dimensions will require a seam in the paper.
